Hot Tamales is another name for Sloppy Joes.  The area of Manitowoc and Sheboygan Wisconsin area, where my grandmother lived, called it Hot Tamales.  It was added to the school lunch menu in the 1960’s.  It is still called this today.

  • My husband is from Chilton and his brother still lives in Green Bay. Their version that I just made tonight leaves our celery and substitutes it with green pepper. Also sometimes a dash of ketchup. Can’t beat it for flavor!!
