Pretzels
My Creative Meal classes prepared this recipe. It was one of their favorites.
*Linsday has now become the best pretzel maker.
Ingredients
1 T. sugar
1 pkg. yeast
3 ¾ – 4 c. flour
1 ½ c. warm water
1 T. salt
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 T. pretzel salt or bagel seasoning
Instructions
Stir together sugar, yeast and warm water in a glass measuring cup. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
Mix 3 ½ cups flour and 1 T. salt in a large mixing bowl. Add yeast mixture and stir with a wooden spoon.
Knead dough for 8 minutes. Let dough rise for 1-2 hours.
Cut into 8 pieces and roll 24” long. Shape dough into a pretzel, on a greased sheet. Let rise 20 minutes.
Brush with egg and salt. Bake at 425 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
Notes
*Lindsay boils the pretzels first in boiling water with 1 T. baking soda. Boil 30 seconds each side. Place on baking pan, add egg wash, salt or bagel seasoning. Bake at 425 degrees, 20 minutes.
