New Orleans Spicy Shrimp

Ingredients

1# shrimp, peeled and tails off 

½ t. red pepper

1 t. paprika

½ t. Cajun seasoning

3 T. oil              

½ c. onion, finely chopped              

½ c. green or red pepper, finely chopped

1-2 t. minced garlic

2 (8 oz.) tomato sauce     

¼ c. water

1 t. chicken bouillon or paste

2 t. chili sauce or 1 t. chili paste

2 T. Worcestershire sauce

2/3 c. half & half or heavy cream 

8 oz. angel hair pasta

juice of ½ lemon

salt & pepper to taste

2 T. fresh parsley, chopped

 

Instructions

     Pat shrimp dry with a paper towel.  Season shrimp on both sides with red pepper, paprika, and Cajun seasoning.  Heat oil in large skillet.  Add onion and peppers.  Sauté 3-4 minutes or until tender.  Add shrimp and garlic and cook shrimp 2 minutes per side.  Remove shrimp from pan, leaving the oil in the skillet.

     To skillet, add tomato sauce, water, chicken bouillon, chili sauce, and Worcestershire sauce.  Bring to a boil, then reduce to simmer for 10-15 minutes.  Remove from heat and stir in heavy cream.  Season with salt & pepper and more Cajun seasoning to taste.

     Boil pasta and drain.  Add pasta and shrimp to sauce.  Squeeze lemon juice over pasta and sprinkle with parsley.
