Hattie Geraldson, Grandmother, 1892-1978
Hattie lived on a Dairy farm in Manitowoc Wisconsin. She raised chickens for the sale of the eggs. As a child, I remember watching her collect the eggs and then candling them in the cellar. She would hold each egg up to the flame of the candle and check the egg for fertilization, size, and condition. She would sell them to neighbors, and a small grocery store that she would stop at on her way home from church.
My Grandmother was known for her strawberries, beautiful produce, and flower gardens. She would host her church’s Ladies Aid and Homemaker Club at strawberry picking time and serve strawberry shortcake.
