Ginger Snaps
Ginger Snaps
Favorite cookie recipe of my mom’s.
As a child, we would take a family drive on Sunday afternoons. Every couple of weeks we would drive from South Milwaukee to the Illinois border, about an hour’s drive. My dad would stop at the 1st gas station in Illinois and buy oleo. Wisconsin, being the ‘Dairy State’, did not allow oleo to be sold until 1967. In the 1960’s oleo (margarine) was a lot cheaper than butter, and in high demand for recipes. Today, butter sales are higher and preferred.
My mother still calls margarine – oleo.
