Fudge

The best times of summer and Christmas vacations were visiting Grandma & Grandpa Henriksen.  We would see all our cousins and best of all – eat Grandma’s Fudge.

  • Author: Bonnie Siesennop

Ingredients

4 c. sugar

¼ c. butter

1 can evaporated milk (12oz.)

7 oz. jar marshmallow cream

1# Hershey bars

2 t. vanilla

12 oz. chocolate chips

*optional: 2 c. chopped nuts

Instructions

In a saucepan, bring to a boil, the sugar, butter, and evaporated milk, stirring constantly.  Boil for 5 minutes.  Remove from heat.

Add the Hershey bars and chocolate chips, marshmallow cream and vanilla.  Nuts if desired.  Beat several minutes to make it smooth and creamy.

Grandma’s quote:  It takes 2 people to take turns stirring, as your arm “wears out”.  The longer you can beat it the better it is.  Put in greased 9×13” pan.

Notes

Grandma’s Fudge

The cost of the fudge recipe was formulated by grandma.  It was found in one of her recipe books; I do not know the year, (probably the early 60’s).

I thought it would be interesting to cost it out at today’s 2007 prices. I used Simon Delivers, my online grocery store.
